Since 1959, The Albuquerque Astronomical Society (TAAS) has been viewing New Mexico's night sky and sharing its features through public education. For information about activities or learning about membership, explore this page or contact us at
Each year, The Albuquerque Astronomical Society, in cooperation with the Sandia Ranger District of the USPS, presents a series of free public star parties in the relatively dark skies of the Oak Flat Picnic Grounds. Oak Flat is only 20 minutes from Albuquerque, but offers a viewing unmatched experience. The dark skies mean that "Deep Sky" objects like Galaxies, Nebula, and Star Clusters can often be viewed. Events like this draw our "Big Guns", aka Really Large Telescopes, and yours for the viewing.
Dr. Ylva Philstrom speaks to TAAS and presents a lecture entitled In the Heart of the Galactic Center discussing the evidence and research of a super massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Before the meeting, at 6 pm Astronomy 101 presents a topic on beginning astronomy. Map
