Equipment - Telescopes - Part 1

The three observatory (in a dome) telescopes include:  the Isengard 16", the Celestron 11", and the Astrophysics 6".

Isengard 16" Telescope
Isengard Telescope

Isengard Telescope, Mount, Ladder
The Isengard is a 16" f/6 Newtonian style telescope, made by Cave-Astrola, on a equatorial mount donated by amateur astronomer Lt. Col Bill Isengard USAF, Ret.

Isengard DomeThe Isengard is housed in the main dome.

NGC-MAX ComputerA NGC-MAX computer allows aligning the Isengard to a selected object.

NGC-MAX ComputerA monitor, keyboard, and mouse are located next to the Isengard, and when synced up to the NGC-MAX, will show where the telescope is pointing on a view of the sky.

NGC-MAX ComputerA chart table diagrams the sky, and may also be used to set other charts on.

Level 1 Training is required to operate this telescope.

Celestron 11" Telescope
Celestron 11 inch Telescope

This is an 11" f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, made by Celestron, on a Losmandy Equatorial Mount, with a Gemini Control System, which is the brains of the mount.  Thanks to René Görlich for the Level 3 EPROM!
Losmandy Gemini System

Attached on the right is the ST-9E SBIG camera with the color wheel.  The camera is attached to a "T" adapter, which is screwed onto a f/6.3 focal reducer, which is screwed onto the back of the orange C11 Optical Tube Assembly (OTA).

The TAAS 2 computer, in the Ortega Building, is used to slew the scope and receive images from the camera.

Isengard DomeThe C11 is mounted in the small dome, which is 50 feet east of the main dome.

Level 3 Training is required to operate this telescope with the camera.

Astrophysics 6" Telescope
Astrophysics 6 inch Telescope   This is a 6" f/8 refractor style telescope, made by Astrophysics, on a equatorial mount.  Attached is the ST-9E SBIG camera.

Isengard DomeThe Astrophysics is either mounted in the small dome, or operated on a tripod in the pad/parking area.

Level 3 Training is required to operate this telescope with the camera.
