| Larry Cash, John Lanning, Mickey & Judy Bock, Sammy Lockwood, and Judy Stanley prepare the main TAAS booth for Astronomy Day 2002 at Coronado Center. ThSis year's TAAS display included a membership table, a photo display board, a GNTO and TAAS event PC slide show, the Starlab, a number of telescope and binocular displays, and a Star-Hog. |

| You may ask, "What's a Star-Hog?" That's what Brock Parker calls his homebuilt 18" Dob, mounted on a custom trailer, and towed by a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Brock premiered the Star-Hog at Astronomy Day 2002. |

All told, it was an impressive looking set-up. |
| Of course, no TAAS Astronomy Day would be complete without
Solar Views. Bruce Levin and his H-alpha scope have been
an important part of Astronomy Day as far back as most of us
can remember.
This year's viewing was accompanied by very strong south winds, that made even the refractors hard to handle. Peak gusts were measured at around 50mph on Astronomy Day 2002. Here, George Pellegrino (kneeling), and Bruce show our nearest star. Note the slightly wind-bent tree to the left. |

Also braving the winds this day was Dale "Marathon Man" Murray. Dale was with us the night before for set-up, then kept his Tele-Vue running throughout the day during winds that would have blown the scope over had he not held-on, but afterwards Dale was set-up again for the Astronomy Day Star party that was held that night at UNM. The temp dropped about 40 degrees that evening after the front passed, but the wind just kept howling. Turn-out for the Star Party was great, with plenty of docents and stargazers. |
