TAAS Public Nights at the University of New Mexico Campus Observatory

The University of New Mexico Campus Observatory is open to the public every Friday night during the fall and spring semesters of the academic year. Hours are from 7 to 9 pm November through April and 8 to 10 pm the rest of the year. TAAS members and graduate students run telescopes (both privately and university owned for the public and students to look through). The main telescope is a Meade 14" LX200GPS acquired in 2004. Other telescopes owned by UNM are an Astromak 12" Schmidt-Cassegrain Reflector, a 10" Cave Newtonian reflector, 10" Meade, numerous 8" Celestrons and smaller telescopes. TAAS members bring telescopes ranging in sizes from 8" to 30" in diameter.

Special event star parties are held at the UNM Campus Observatory for eclipses, and other astronomical happenings. We also hold star parties for school, community, and private groups as scheduling allows. Observatory Hot Line: (505) 277-1446 . Call this number to find out if the observatory will be open or closed due to weather for a Friday public night and other pertinent information about scheduling a group. The UNM Campus Observatory is located on Yale Blvd, 2 blocks north of Lomas Blvd.. Parking is ample and free on public nights.
