July 2001, Mars Day
In the summer of 2001, Mars made a nice close appearance for us, so naturally we had a public "Blow-out" at the UNM Campus Observatory. Both the Governor of New Mexico, and the Mayor of Albuquerque officially declared the day - MARS DAY. We had scopes, docents, handouts, hundreds of people, media.... and a huge thunderstorm with wind. Mars viewing lasted about 15 minutes. Life goes on... |
